Today, I am wondering if all my hard work on the NB will pay off. The web site is down, so the scores can not be posted tonight. I had decieded that I would not check my scores unil tonight away from others, I want to know and then I do not want to know, two times I have checked at school and two times I have not passed. This is my third time trying to get this certification.

reading
I just finished one of the best books. "Juliet" by Anne Fortier. It was so good. I love Shakespeare's plays. When I was about 13 years old, the movie "Romeo and Juliet" came out. I went to see it a lot of times. I even bought the sound track. I knew that play by heart. I haven't picked up the play in years and was delighted when I saw the book "Juliet" at Barnes and Nobles. I read the overview of the book and bought it on my nook. I was very surprised that the play was based upon a true story. Shakespeare changed the city in which the true story took place. The actual story was written as Romeo and Giulietta in 1476 by a writer named Masuccio Salernitano, and went through many changes, it was the story that ended up on Shakespeare's desk. The original story took place in Siena and Shakespeare placed his story in Verona.
The book was actually two stories, the story of Romeo and Juliet and the story of a modern Romeo and Juliet. I liked that the modern story ended happy instead of in tragedy as the original version. I have read about 30 or more books this summer and this was far the best book I have read. I finished it in about 2 days.

August
Hard to believe we are now into August. The month of August has always been a busy month. Mama's birthday is this month. She will be 84 on the 17th. I am so thankful that I still have my mom. She is doing pretty good being 84. I look at my mom who is the oldest of 5 children, her three sisters have not fared as well as mama. One sister has passed away and the two others are in advanced stages of Alzheimer's. One brother who is doing fairly good health wise.
It is hard watching your parents get old. Then you begin to look at your self and realize you are also getting old. The cycle goes on.

Summer
My favorite time of year is the summer. I love the sun being so bright and the hot it brings. The one thing I did miss this summer was going to the beach. I love the beach, only Joe likes the mountains. This year we went to the mountains. I can't believe that there is only 17 days until I go back to work. I have enjoyed being home this summer.

fitness
So today I started my fitness plan. Went to the gym for 1 hour and worked out. I am using myfitnesspal.com on my cell phone to track my calories and exercise. I do hope it works and I start dropping those pounds.

Others Blogs
I just looked at others blogs. I enjoyed reading and seeing the products of the other teachers. I do wonder if anyone is even looking at the items I have posted. I have tried to keep up with the challenges and publish them as I finish.
I have been having problems getting items embedded in the blog. I finally figured out how to get my voki in the blog. How to get the Prezi on Songs of the Civil War posted (it is not complete but a start) I created a scrap book from Google docs. and with creative commons using my own pictures from flicker I fixed a photo group from Atlantis in the Bahamas. The Amomoto was created last year for my son and his bride. I also create a book for Little Bird Tales. The last thing I have left to do is edit a wikepedia article. I know there are alot of people in the challenge but it would be nice if Jerry would at least make a comment on what I have completed and if I am on the right track. I do not like tweeter, I did join a group on tweeter for christian mothers. Only since I do not have small children I stoped following the site. This challenge has been a great way to show me how I can use technology with a deeper understanding of how the sites are created. Thanks

My Prezi
Just created a Prezi, I liked being able to have the movement of the presentation. I didn't like not being able to delete when I made mistakes or didn't like something in the presentation. The graphics were kinda limited. Had trouble finding pictures of the civil war.
I think this would be frustrating for my students to use.

Exploring BeFunky.com
I enjoy exploring different web sites. I just explored BeFunky.com, and used photos to show different effects. It was fun seeing the photos change for each feature. I was taking a picture and had it look like a cartoon, different colors and shadows a sketch and black and white. I think my students would like using this site to change their photos. They can use this site for projects. I am already thinking how to use this site. I will post some of my results.

Scrapbook
I just created a scrapbook using Google Documents. I sent the scrapbook to my blog on it did not show up. Creating the scrapbook was easy only I did not really care for the background of the book. I would have liked to have changed it and added more pages. I think my students would like this link using pictures they could do a presentation of a novel or activity. Now I need to learn how to embedd items to my page.

Sunday afternoon
This weekend we had Amanda come home for a visit. She brought Roscoe, Matthew's puppy to visit also. Roscoe is as close to a grandchild I will get for a while. It is amazing that while that puppy is here this house is alive again. Molly, our pitbull mix, loves playing with Roscoe, they will run and chase each other for hours. As for Amanda, we ate lunch with her on Saturday and that was really the last I saw of her. She spent her time at the pool and with her friends. She left to go back to Greenville this afternoon and two hours later Matthew came to pick up Roscoe, he was in and out I barley had time to kiss him goodbye. When he left, Joe stated that was disappointing!! Now, the house is quiet, the dogs are asleep. Funny how the quiet just settles in and the house goes to sleep until the next visit.
Our house has been an Empty Nest for 4 years. It is nice at times other times I just would like to see and be with my children. Now I wait until the next time they come home.

Today
Today, I went to Little Bird Tales and created a two page book. I drew the pages. It was fun. I know my kids would love this site.
I am stumped with the 4th challenge. I have been to the site only I am not sure what I am suppose to navigate too. Still exploring.
My favorite app on my cell phone is the places app. I used it and the google maps while we were in the mountains it gave great information. I have android marketplace not iphone still waiting until I can get an iphone. On my nook I like angry birds and of course I love reading the books I have purchased which I have read about 5 so far this summer.
I went through the set up phase and updated my comments so I hope this will enable me to make comments and post them to others blogs.

Happy Birthday America
4th of July, what does this mean to people? Independance for our Country. Many people do not realize the true sacrifice men and women have made to make this Country what it is today. I truly did not realize how much I loved America until I went to England. I loved my trip the history, the sites, the buildings were amazing. While sitting in a church and the chorus was singing America, I realized what a great country I have! Even serving in the miltary did not affect me the way this song did that day! I am more than proud to be an American.
Today we celebrate with hotdogs, fireworks, and family time. This year means a little more as my nephew is serving in Iraq, praying that he is kept safe and comes home alive and well.

vacation
Home from our vacation. It was very restful. The mountains were beautiful, the air was clean and crisp. I really love going to all the little shops. My favorite part was going back to Crossnoor. At Crossnoor, there is a school, where children who are in foster care or orphans, go to learn different skills in a Christian back ground. The girls learn how to weave with a loom. Plus other skills along with academics. They have put in a laybrinth, in the garden, it was very inspirational.

vacation
Getting ready to go on a vacation to the mountains. To be honest I would rather be going to Mrytle Beach. I am a more of a beach person than mountain person.
I created an avatar, it was kind of cool. I did send it to my blog, hoping it will post soon. I went to the maker's faire at the fair grounds and got the name of a web site that creates 3D photos. I think I will give it a try.

Thanks for all the help in commenting on others blogs. I did manage to post to one blog. I also found an article about using the task killer on cell phones. How we use them way too much. It doesn't really help save battery life. That most of the tasks will close out when not used for a while. So I am going to try it.
The third challenge, I have made a video with annimote, for my son's reshearsal dinner last year, so easy to make. I think I will try little bird tales, since I haven't used it yet. I did learn about new web books when I went to the AIG conference, similar to little bird tales, I really want to make lessons for my smart board. Just have not had the time.

Having trouble getting my comments to post on several blogs. Since it is 12:00 am I will go to bed and try again tomorrow. I read several blogs and I found each insighful of why they signed up for this workshop. I am looking forward to learn more about my new friends.
cell phone problems
My cell phone has started to turn on and off by it self. This happened two weeks ago and they sent me a new phone, then a new battery and now they are again sending me a new phone. If only I could update to the Iphone. can't do that until Feb. I am frustrated with Verizon right now.

DPS Technology Challenge
I am looking for a new and exciting way to enhance technology in my classroom during the next school year. I use many forms of technology with my students and would like to add more information to my toolbox. This challenge will also give me something to do during the summer to keep my brain active.
